Frequently Asked Questions
About Exotic Pet Telemedicine and Virtual Appointments
What is telemedicine?
Telemedicine refers to health care offered remotely via telephone calls, video calls, and text chatting. We usually use video calls.
Do you prescribe medication? How do I get it?
Yes! we can get your pet the medication it needs in a few different ways:
We keep the most commonly used medication at our facility. We can send your pet’s prescription via expedited shipping to arrive within 1-2 business days. *shipping times may increase in rural areas.
For medication we don’t keep on-site, we use online pharmacies such as Petsdrugmart who can fill and ship your prescription to you.
We can provide a written prescription to be filled at a veterinary clinic close to you. We reach out and handle the details, all you have to do is pick it up!
Does my pet need to be present and on camera for the consult?
The advantage of telemedicine is that your pet does not need to be physically present or leave their enclosure. By providing us with photos and videos of your pet's condition, along with detailed responses to our comprehensive questions, we can accurately diagnose and prescribe treatment remotely.
What can the vet treat?
Through videos or photos of the concerns provided by pet owners, our veterinarian can treat the following, and more:
Behavioral concerns
Skin issues including minor cuts and wounds
Diet advice
Weight loss
Mild to moderate infections
General pet health and wellness concerns
If you are not sure, shoot us an email, text, or give us a call and we can let you know if we can help, or if an in-person visit with your regular veterinarian is needed.
There are no more appointments available and my pet needs help.
We try our very best to have as many appointments available for booking as possible to help as many pets as we can. We offer urgent care appointments on some evenings and weekends. Send us an email, text, or call us for availability and we will try our best to fit you in.
Is the consult alway over video? What if I do not have access to Zoom?
While our standard consultation method is via Zoom (video call), we can also accommodate consultations through a phone call or text messages. By sharing photos and videos of your pet's condition, along with detailed responses to our comprehensive questions, we can accurately diagnose and prescribe treatment remotely.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Gather some photos and videos of your pet’s issue and have them ready to submit prior to your appointment. We ask that photos and videos are uploaded at least 2 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time to give us time to review the issue prior to meeting with you.
Which animals will you see?
We help a wide variety of reptiles, amphibians, birds and mammals. See a list of examples on our services page.
Will you see dogs or cats?
Yes! We prioritize exotic pets but if we have availability, we can help your dog or cat too.
What is Triaging?
Triage is the preliminary assessment of patients in order to determine the urgency of their need for treatment and the nature of treatment required. Triaging can help determine the type of treatment needed and help establish a plan for treatment.
